A "Progressive solution" to the Electoral College Debate... humbly offered.
Offer for an option in the spirit of bipartisan compromise...
If the Democrat nominee (as in 2016), wins the popular votes but loses the Electoral College, we count the popular vote (Democrat elected POTUS). But… if the Democrat loses the popular vote, but wins the Electoral College, we count the Electoral vote (Democrat elected POTUS).
However... if by chance, the Democrat candidate loses both the popular vote and the Electoral vote… we melt down and scream “Democracy has failed” and demand endless investigations of the GOP winner... throughout their term(s). Justa humble suggestion.
Note: with the new “popular vote initiatives” now all the rage in “Blue” states where EC votes are awarded to the popular vote winner, no matter how their state voted. We ALL know if this indeed occurred and the GOPer won the popular vote, but lost the EV… these same “Blue” states would immediately call special sessions and repeal their "popular vote wins the EV laws" before the electors meet in December... so the Democrat would be elected POTUS.
